about

FINALLY ... this is the long lost/deleted debut album from The Spoils available for the first time in any format since its release in 2001.

No hard copies remain except for those 500 that were first pressed. If you own it you have one of the few.

Shortly after this recording, singer, Sean Simmons suffered a throat injury which dropped his voice from alto to baritone. These songs are rarely performed by the band these days for this reason.

The line up that performed on "Hurtsville" disbanded in 2002 leaving only founder Sean Simmons and violinist, Bronwyn Henderson remaining however before this line-up's demise, the band recorded an EP under the working title " Surf Around". It was an elaborate production consisting of layered harmonies, strings, and other cinematic orchestration mapping the broken relationship of an innocent young couple who lived for the great Australian surf. It was Simmons' homage to his heroes Brian Wilson & Phil Spector yet was never completed and is shelved to this day.
